Good Afternoon Central, I know you are finally enjoying some cool fall weather. This is such a great time of year to enjoy life and friends. Did any of you see the moon this week? It was spectacular. I was reminded of these verses from Psalm 8:3-4
"When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?" The psalmist, in awe of creation, wonders how could humans even compare the thoughts of God. It's answered in verse 5. 5 You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. 6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: 7 all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, 8 the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. 9 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! The answer is mind-blowing. In comparison to this vast beautiful universe God has made, we were created literally a little lower than God, crowned with glory and honor. The next time you get frustrated, down on yourself, feel like throwing in the towel, remember these verses. We are of great value to God. Everyone is of immeasurable worth! Praise God!
One of the ways our congregation reminds people of their worth to God is by showing love through congregational care. This week folks in our church (that I know about) did the following to show love: - Visited the sick in the hospital. - Made phone calls to those who may feel lonely or to check in with them - Prayed for requests made from Sunday worship - Made home visits - Sent prayer cards - Served communion to those who could not make it to worship - Delivered DVD's of worship to homebound members John said in I John 4:14, "If we love our Christian brothers and sisters, it proves that we have passed from death to eternal life. But a person who has no love is still dead (NLT)." Church, are you dead? Do you have love in your heart? This weekend, prove it by extending some love to others, especially your brothers and sisters in Christ. Love wasn't meant to end with us but to flow through us to bless others. Bless someone this weekend! Finally, I look forward to seeing you Sunday as I talk about how we grow spiritually. You are in my prayers Central. See you Sunday. God's best, Scott
