A MESSAGE FROM SCOTT
Gathering and Scattering
During the month of August, I have been back at school so to speak. I enrolled in two online courses: one on digital ministry and another on establishing a house church network. One of the things that has stuck with me is the phrase gathering and scattering. Over the past few months in particular, we have been working hard on gathering plans; when to gather, how to gather safely, etc. As important as gathering plans are, it is just as important that we develop and articulate scattering plans.
Church is more than a place that you go; it is a way Jesus' followers are to be in the world. Jesus said in the sermon on the mount, "You are the light of the world ... In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven (Matt 5:14-16)".
During this season of ministry, instead of focusing on what we can't do, we need to focus on what we can do, as individuals and as the body of Christ.
On our Missions Celebration Sunday, Randy Frye challenged us to "see" people and not pass by. As you go on with your daily life, I encourage you to "see" people with the eyes of Jesus. Look for and lean into the opportunities God gives you. Over the next few months, we will be lifting up scattering opportunities where you can share the love of Christ. You have one this month with Think Inside the Box. Let's not be like the priest and the levite who pass by. Let us be like the Good Samaritan who gets personally involved and invites others to join. Thanks for all you do Central!
